Marlins' Prospect Allison Remains a Question Mark

Jeffrey Allison might not be making it to Marlins camp this Spring after all. Allison, the team’s first round draft pick in 2003, has battled drug addiction since becoming a pro. Throughout the winter the feeling (at least the feeling that I got) was that Allison would be invited to Marlins camp and that things had turned around in his life.

At least that was how he made it seem. The Marlins though apparently see it differently. Allison remains on the restricted list, meaning that he’s ineligible to join the team for workouts and games.

It’s unclear at this point what the future holds for the former highly-touted Allison. The Marlins have withheld about two-thirds of his signing bonus (per the article). Maybe they’ve been following the continuing Josh Hamilton saga up in Tampa and are trying to stay clear of these sorts of situations.

Whatever the case, hopefully things will work out for the best for both Allison and Hamilton. From all reports they are both extremely talented ballplayers who just need to get their lives in order.
